Community Chipping Events

Reducing flammable materials in the Brazos Canyon is one of the most effective ways property owners can reduce the risk of wildfires in our community.  The Brazos Firewise Team in conjunction with the Brazos Canyon Volunteer Fire Department and Fishtail Ranch provide opportunities for Brazos Property Owners to  safely dispose of limbs they have removed from their property.  Advanced Registration is required for all Community Chipping Events at BrazosFirewise.com/Chipping.

Please note, these events are for residents of the Brazos Canyon Fire District only, not for contractors or tree service vendors.

Volunteers Needed

The chipping events are challenging events and require detailed scheduling, hard work, trained personnel, expensive equipment, and lots of volunteers.  We are asking that residents requesting to have limbs chipped consider donating at least a couple of hours to the Firewise effort by signing up to help on Brazos Firewise.com.  (This could be helping on chipping days, volunteering to help your neighbors mitigate, stuffing envelopes, providing lodging to Firewise experts,  or similar.

On-site Chipping Event Guidelines

  • Limbs need to be stacked two days before the event.
  • They must be stacked neatly and not compressed.
  • The large ends of the limbs should be facing the road.
  • Please be kind and stack limbs so they can be easily lifted and carried to the chipper.
  • Limbs are limited to 8″ in diameter and less than 5′ in length.
  • Small bits and tiny unattached branches and thorny shrubs should be thrown in the trash and won’t be picked up.
  • They must be directly adjacent to, but not on, a real major roadway (The road must be level and easily passable by a passenger car) with a maximum of three 5’x5’x5′ piles of limbs per household.
  • The chips will be broadcast onto the property adjacent to the piles, so the limbs must be piled on the owner’s land (not on someone else’s land.)
